Valparaiso Department of Water Works will start its spring flushing program on Monday, April 16th. Flushing crews will work from Monday through Saturday for approximately four (4) weeks (May 11th). Flushing will take place from 9:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. in order to reduce the inconvenience to the customers.

What is the NDP?
The National Day of Prayer provides an opportunity for us to come together as a community to pray in thanks for all the blessings we have in our lives, in our city and in our country.
Days of prayer have been called for since 1775, when the First Continental Congress designated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln called for such a day. Officially, the National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event by an act of Congress in 1952 and was signed into law by President Truman. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by Former President Ronald Reagan, establishing the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday of May each year.
Reagan urged "...the citizens of this great nation to gather together on that day in homes and places of worship to pray, each after his or her own manner, for unity of hearts of all mankind."
How does this fit with the mission of the Boy Scouts of America?
The Boy Scouts of America focuses on mentoring youth, building character, supporting faith traditions, and helping establish patterns for lifelong learning, healthy living, and serving others.
A May 2005 Study Of Ethics And Character By Harris Interactive confirms that a Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
Scouting experience also influences religious service attendance:
- Men who were Scouts as youth attend religious services more frequently than those who were never Scouts. In fact, nearly one quarter of non-Scouts never attend, compared with 17 percent of men with Scouting backgrounds.
-Men who were Scouts five or more years are also more likely than men who have never been Scouts to say attending religious services together as a family (83 percent versus 77 percent) and giving financial support to religious organizations (56 percent versus 49 percent) are very important.

Victory Christian Academy, in Valparaiso is holding it’s first annual golf outing on Monday, May 14th at Forest Park Golf Course. Registration is at Noon, followed by a shot gun start at 1pm. VCA serves students from Porter, Lake, and La Porter Counties.

The Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation invites the public to a Memorial Day observance at 8:30 a.m., Friday, May 25, at the Service Memorial located at Foundation Meadows Park, 3210 N. Campbell. Mayor Jon Costas will speak, and veterans from Pines Village will read the names of area veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty as inscribed on the Memorial. The "Reflections" booklet will be presented to all that attend. The booklet is a compilation of reflections of local heroes whose names are recognized on the commemorative bricks of the Plaza.
The Valparaiso Parks Foundation invites community members to continue honoring local heroes by purchasing commemorative bricks. The commemorative bricks, which cost $85 each and have enough room for 39 characters/spaces, can be engraved with a customized message. The message may honor a veteran or someone who serves the community, thank a special teacher or volunteer, recognize a dear friend or loved one, or simply demonstrate support for this important place in the community.
